When I was in Canada a few years back, my friend in Quebec went into
Radio Shack brought a dish for $49.00 unmodified and could pickup a
whole bunch of channels (illegally) for free.
I think you will find the US is prolly like Canada there is no free to air TV
it's all cable or satelite. It's been around over there so long with so many
competing providers, it becomes cheap. Telephone is pretty cheap there
too, $20 per month tops, no per call charge, and if you pay an extra $20
you can ring all north America (at no extra per call charge)... including the US,
Alaska and Canada. And we get told from time to time we have the cheapest
phone service in the world. Mobile on the other hand is more expensive.
You pay for out going as well as in coming. They figure if you want mobility
then why make the caller pay for your mobility, which seems reasonable to
me but not the mobile user.
