It's pretty good and a massive improvement on the old BoM satellite images (which were horribly degraded versions of the MTSAT-1R data that you could find elsewhwere on the Net). And 10-minute imagery is great compared to 1-hour imagery. Trouble is, the imagery they are using is compressed, and we all know what a pain that is! It's not as good as the imagery that comes down directly from the Himawari-8 satellite. To view that directly, go to http://himawari8.nict.go.jp/, zoom into Australia, sect your date and time, and enjoy!

There, you'll see real 1km resolution imagery, rather than approx. 2km compressed data at the BoM. But... the animation facility is better at the BoM site!
