Hi there,

After perusing Rick's excellent SMC pic i decided to pluck an object from the SMC suitable for some NB imaging under the near full moon thurs/fri nights - the weather was good so had to go for it.

Although my Ha data isn't clean, it was unexpectedly windy (and perhaps next to the dslr Oiii data you notice the 1 in 4 red efficiency next to the 3 in 4 blue/green pixies). i've managed to cobble together a bicolour Ha Oiii Oiii image.

Want more data so hopefully this is a work in progress. Also i think in converting to greyscale i may have lost some quality so i may revisit a reprocess on the current data. however it's pretty fiddly choosing channels and remixing / aligning.

20 min subs iso 1600 ~2hrs 20 for Ha and 2 hrs 40 for Oiii .. baader filters. I'm not sure there was really benefit in subs this long with an uncooled dslr. the main parts are relatively bright.

Geez, full NB with 20min 1600iso subs on a non cooled DSLR?, your keen, seems to me your up for an astrocam. Good effort, but you know what you need.

thanks Rick - yep definitely worth more data and perhaps shorter subs (noise)

Cheers Bob, thanks that was actually first light after upgrading my focuser/tube connections... i was getting some tilt depending on which direction i was shooting at, it may have been fixed now

Cheers Fred, indeed, too keen, you should see the actual subs no shortage of noise! Yes, i've been slowly headed that way, hoping to have a cooled cam before summer of course random things get in the way like, people without insurance running into your car when it is parked out on the street ... just when i was about to push the button on a cam deeeeep breaths

cheers Steve, yes plan to get some more data, perhaps 5 hrs for Ha/Oiii each. the noise is killing the faint stuff, i really have to push that black point to hide as much as possible. I think your version came up when i was searching this object, there aren't too many out there, yours and Marco's i think featured in the search engine.



Have also added a newer processed version, hoping it is a tad less faint. Also a slightly different blend Ha-HaOiii-Oiii. its in the original post or link below
