M83 - The Southern Pinwheel Galaxy (10" GSO 830)

Hi everyone,

I finally got around to getting a 10" light bucket and tonight I got autoguiding working with it (massively overweight - 19kg total payload on the NEQ6 eep! Thank goodness I have done the belt mod upgrade). Here is a stack of 16x2 min subs of M83. Pretty happy so far with the progress of this! Ha is showing up nicely too.

Cheers, Mike

Only another 15.5 hours to go.

The Ha does stand out pretty well.

Nice and sharp. Be careful in your processing of the black point (the left hand side of the histogram). If your black point slider eats into the bell shaped part of the histogram it loses some of the dimmer data. You get a very dark background but you also lose the dim gray the sky should look like plus some faint stuff around the galaxy. That's what looks like has happened here.

Greg.
