Attaching a Losmandy g-8 to pier help?

Hello everyone,
Just wondering all you Losmandy owners who have there EQ head mounted on a pier how you actually done so..adaptor plates etc..any pics on how you did it.
Been thinking of different ways to do so but maybe one of you guys out there have a real easy way?
Any ideas/pics are very welcome.

Hi Gary

At a guess I would say you are looking for a Losmandy MA (Meade Adapter)

It is 6" round by 4" high and has the flanges for securing your Digital Drive or Gemini unit.

Secures to a pier by a 1/2" bolt. I have one on the top of my pier and it fits perfectly, will even fit your G-11 when you upgrade, lol

I use the Meade adapter made by Losmandy....it has holes in the base that can be screwed down to any plate.

Looks like that would be the way to go. All I would need is one tapped hole in the top of the pier and will be in business..

Hi Gary

All I did was drill a 1/2" hole in the Top Plate and weld a 1 1/2" x 1/2" bolt to the bottom, had the thread upwards and put a large flat washer and springwasher and nut in the MA, could easily do any adjustments insitu.

Thanks for the tip there.
Can I ask what diameter pipe you used for the pier? Is it sturdy enough for a full load?
Having problems finding a piece cheap up here. Can get some 4-1/2" pipe cheap with 1/4" wall thickness for $20 and 6" stuff for 4 times that price!!

Hi Gary

My pier is only 4 1/2" heavy duty steam pipe which already had flanges on the end, is filled cement and is adequate for the job providing you don't bump it. It was always only going to be temporary until I move.

I will be moving to a better location in about 12 months so I am at the moment making enquiries with Southern Cross Piers for a more substantial pier.
