Can anyone help with a Kaspersky AV problem?
Hey guys,
a while ago I got Kaspersky AV software because a few peeps on here recommended it.
By and large it seems pretty good, but there are times when it does erratic things which I've never seen before.
One of the strange things happens from my PC running Windows 7 Prof and it only happens rarely on the odd website or two.
For example, when I go to the Apple Store section of the apple website to purchase something, I usually want to log into my account. After I've entered my details, I go to click the 'sign in' button... and absolutely nothing happens.
I know it's the big K causing the problem because if I disable it, I can get in straight away no problem.
I've contacted their support and they've had me do a variety of things, none of which have worked.
Has anyone here any idea how to get around this sort of thing.
Thanks for any suggestions

I don't know Kaspersky in particular but most AV SW will have a management console which should allow you to enter 'safe' sites you regularly use.

Hi Brent,
Thanks for that. Yes there is such a location and I have plugged in the URL of the safe site, but it still doesn't want to allow me in.
This must be something that other users have come across, - it can't be just me surely :/

Hi Paul, yes Kaspersky is painful sometimes, although I have not had the problems you have had as i don't have any apple accounts etc, it does often tell me to turn off the computer so it can fix or disinfect as it calls it, I run a scan but actually nothing is wrong,
This has happened on numerous occasions, I have no choice but to put up with it.

Get AVG Free, works perfectly, updates regularly and cause zero problems. I've used it on at least 5 or 6 computers over many years.

Problems with Krapersky is easily fixed by installing Malwarebytes (free or paid).
At least you weren't silly enough to use Norton or Trend Micro!

Thanks for the tip. Is there any particular version I need to look out for, or is the download automatically going to be the right version?
Cheers

Hi Lewis,
thanks for the tip re MWB.
I see that's just a 14 day free trial. Is there a way around that or do I need to go for the paid product which I imagine is an annual subscription product?
I'll grab the trial in the meantime and see if it fixes it out of curiosity.

Hey guys,
I decided against using the MWB in addition to the AVG for two reasons.
Firstly, a forum I ended up on said not to run the two together since the MWB could affect the operation of AVG,
Secondly, I wasn't easily able to find the 'forever free' version of MWB.
Regarding AVG, has anyone got the paid version of AVG, and if so what was the thinking behind that decision? What was the feature/s you found important enough to buy? The 3-PC version is only $39 so if it were worthwhile I'd be perfectly happy to shell out for that.
Also, on my older Windows XP PC, every hour or so since I installed AVG, a THREAT DETECTION popup appears telling me it's found an adware threat or similar. This, despite having previously run the full scan and it finding an assortment of things to get rid of.
Is this normal guys? Anyone else have this happening? How is it finding this stuff AFTER the full scan and cleanup has completed?
All info most welcome

Hi Paul,
Malwarebytes has a completely free version.
It does not run in the back ground. ie: Real time.
There's no probs with installing it & running it when you require.
Just keep the defs updated.
&...Even though AVAST free is a little bit of a PITB, it's still a good anti-virus app.
The free version does real time scanning & auto updates.

The advert/s pop ups can be a tad annoying, but that's what "they" included in it.
They cannot be turned off, but you can in the paid for version.
Not worth the $$$ IMO.
When installing, be sure to UN-check the Browser Cleanup, Grim Fighter & the so called "App Updater" features.
They are not needed in an anti-virus program.
SUPERAntispyware is also recommended.
Similar features to MWB, but for spyware.
Does not run in the back ground & you perform the (manual) updates.
All these run perfectly with no conflicts.

Besides the AHEM copy of MWB, the regular download let's you run it free - it will not restrict ANYTHING, except as noted above, does NOT run in the background - you have to manually run it. The paid/AHEM version runs in the background for full protection.
I still use Spybot - Search and Destroy. VERY effective, and you can immunise all your browsers too (wish my wife had done it, considering the hijack she got a while back!)
I also use Hitman Pro and ADW.

I use MWB Paid, and it is rock solid.
It can be painful when it picks up false positives, but then again, it shows that it is doing it's job.

Hi Shane,
So what does MWB do that an anti virus prog like AVG doesn't do? Any thoughts on that please?

I had NO end of issues with AVG - LOTS of false positives, update failures etc etc.
MWB has just been rock solid for me since day 1, which is going on 7 years I think now. They don't outdate the program like Norton does (force you to rebuy the new program when the old one no longer updates) - they simply update your program for you. Fantastic!
Well worth it, no matter which way you obtain it. Mine is paid for, as I felt so strongly for their product I paid for it after using it a while in free mode.
