Meade Giant Field Tripod

Looking for a more stable but still portable and adjustable tripod for your SCT or other scope?

I have an excellent and very stable Meade Giant Field Tripod available in Canberra Australia.
The damping time of this tripod is almost instant and would be better than most permanent piers!

It's in fine condition, works perfectly and nothing is broken or missing and will take your Meade LX90/200/200GPS without modification!

AU$500 plus delivery

It is too big to send via Aussie post and a courier might be a little expensive
so pickup may be better but I will work with any buyer for what ever is best for
them :-)

Cheers

good value Mike . I am working on a modification to use the one i own with my EQ6, this involves the replacement of the threaded rod with one for the eq6 and using a pier adapter for the EQ6 . Wonder if it would be stable enough?? So there, if you want a stable mount the get this - its a bargain (post the cheque later to me Mike for the writeup)

So dont pass this offer by. you will never see a more stable tripod in your life

Sorry Mike for intruding, but I've attached a pic of my 10"SCT on the bigger meade tripod for anyone interested in gauging the difference between that and the standard

Differences between the Giant Field and standard tripod?

What are the physical differences between the standard and the Giant field versions? Are the leg tubes bigger diameter? Is the top casting bigger/ larger in size?
Interested in what the benefits would be to upgrade to the "Giant" version.

Giant field tripod

Yes the legs are larger diameter and can spread wider. The top plate is the same diameter and bolt patern for cross compatibility between Meade scopes and it may also be heavier duty in design but I'm not sure?

Basically the giant versions is a much larger and heavier duty version of the standard tripod that comes with the 7", 8" and 10" LX200GPS's

As you can see they are expensive to buy as a seperate item new! I guess the price from an Australian Meade distributer will be well over $1000?

You will notice signifcant difference in stability between the standard field tripod and the giant version, particularly with less than a 12" SCT on it!

Tripod leg diameters????

Sounds good. Never having a "std" tripod I don't know what the real differences are. Can you tell the difference by measuring the diameter of the leg tubes? If so, can someone post the sizes of the standard tripod and the Giant Tripod ( can only find details of the VERY giant tripod for the 16" which appears to have 4" diameter legs!!)

The leg tubes themselves on mine are 3 inches in diameter with the collars close to 4 inches. The top plate is 8 inches in diameter by 2.5 inches high.

It's way beefier than the 10" version. I know. I carry mine everywhere I go.

Oh yeah - the retail price in the USA is $1,250 - US!
