Near tragic end QLD holday.

Been away for a couple weeks visiting my daughter and grand daughter in Hervey Bay. We were just about ready to leave after a nice break, when my wife Kathy had a heart attack!

Or to be precise a spontaneous coronary dissection.

It was lucky we were still in Hervey Bay and not out on the western country roads of SE QLD. The emergency services responded quickly with Kathy airlifted to Nambour Hospital where the heart surgeons saved her life!!

She ended up with seven stents, it was a very complex procedure.

I'm one very grateful husband!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I must sincerely thank the ambulance officers, care flight and all the Doctors, nurses and staff of Nambour Hospital.

:thu mbsup:

Looks like we will be in for an extended stay as she
can't be driven home and airlines won't take on coronary patients for 2 to 3 weeks after the procedure.

Justin.

PS. Never felt so scared and helpless in my life.

Wow Justin, - what a heart stopping moment - for you - that must have been.

How grateful we should be to those super-skilled medics that got on with the job of saving her life. Here's wishing your wife a speedy recovery.

A good outcome Justin to a scary situation. On the plus side stenting is preferred to open heart surgery so hopefully your wife's recovery should be without any complications and rapid. A colleague at work went to see his doctor for a simple complaint, mentioned some other symptoms he was having..doctor did some test..next thing he was rushed to hospital to have a triple bypass.

Thanks Hans!

She has lost about 10% of her heart muscle, unfortunately not all the arteries could be saved, but hopefully she we will have good heart function once the shocked area's start to recover.

Thanks,

Justin.

Good to hear she's over the initial episode, but sounds like she might still have a bit of a way to go with her recovery. Fingers crossed it continues without any stumbles.

Thanks Laurie and H!

It's been 3 days since surgery, she's improving slowly.

What a frightening experience for you all!
I'm glad the paramedics were efficient, and a plane was available.
I cannot imagine what it is like for you two, but you have my best wishes for a full recovery, and a future without further problems.

Very lucky that you weren't out on the Newell Highway, very lucky indeed......
Hope your dearly beloved has a speedy recovery Justin.
For a regional hospital Nambour is excellent. (My wife worked there in Cardiac Care and Medical Imaging for 10 years and has many friends there. While you're there you can marvel at my handiwork as well ..... I supervised the concrete formwork on the new section).
Best wishes for the future.

Scary stuff Justin best wishes to Kathy for a speedy recovery.

A friend had a similar loss of muscle with his attack , took a while for him to
recover fully , he was sitting on his surfboard , last thing he remembers as he was falling into the water was another near him looking around with a puzzled look at the pounding he was doing on his board as he couldn't speak.
