Welcome Kathryn

There are a few of us scattered around Brisbane - what part are you from?

Also, what sort of scope do you have?

Hi all! Thanks for the big welcome. Its me Kathryn from the "other" site. Some of you gave me lots of advice on getting started with my telescope that my husband gave me for christmas. Still haven't got the finderscope lined up ... have never used the motors (still don't know how). But I have had so much fun. I just get it outside and look all over the sky. I have had a few dinner parties and got the scope out to wow a few guests. Saturn is a big winner.

I have a Konusky 8" reflector (orange - love the colour, but I bet that's not important to you guys).

I have been eavesdropping on this site for some time now and love all the comments floating about. Had a few laughs and learnt some things too!

cheers kat

Hey Kat,

Orange is cool! Some of us are into decor and colour.

Hmmmm, . . . might paint a flame job on mine . .

Hi kathryn, I used to believe that the only colour a scope should be was white, now I have them all sorts of colours :-))
There are a few of us here in Brissy, so anytime you need ahand getting setup or need to know how things work all you got to do is ask
we are only too happy to help.
What part of Brisbane do you live in north or south?

cheers
david.

Hi David, I live on the south side of Brisbane. Very suburban. I think I really need to take my telescope away from the street lights and my neighbours houses are so close to mine that from my tiny little square of lawn in my back yard I am very limited. Also I can barely carry my scope outside. Does everyone pack it up and cart it around in their car? Will I damage it by doing that? I read that it is easy to put the mirrors out of alignment with movement.

Cheers,
kat

Wow to Andrew Wall - Astromanl,
A domed observatory - that sounds very impressive. I think I might add that to my wish list. My husband says he has hit on a winner with my telescope for christmas. He doen't have to come up with new ideas for birthdays etc. Just something new for my scope.

uhoh! i think i can see a hacked picture coming

you do have to be careful moving scopes. big bumps can put them out. most of us cart our scopes around tho to dark sites and observing nights.

get your husband to buy eyepieces next.... really expensive ones

Hi Kathryn, I pack mine in the car and travel 200k to a dark sky site, most times my collmination stays put, once you have learned how to collminate it only takes a minute or two to redo.
The best thing about owning a scope is the spending is just beginning, so for a women who likes shopping your in the right hobby :-))
remember these names Pentax XW , Nagler, whisper them to hubby as he sleeps they will enter his subconscious mind and next birthday one might turn up :-))
I live at Fairfield so any time you and hubby want to pop around for a coffee ( my yougest son makes great coffee I trained him well)
bring your scope and we can run you through the basics of collmination and setting up your scope, and using the drives.
My sky is not the best I,m too close to the city but I find trying to teach yourself can be frustrating at best.
anyway your'e welcome anytime,PM me if your'e interested and we can organise something.
cheers
David.

Kathryn

If Parkinson is closer to your locale I can make the same offer as David - with slightly darker skies. The coffee may not be as good though - I can attest to Nick(David's youngest) making a nice cup
