Thumbs up Sirius optics under New Management !

I just became aware that yet another telescope shop is closing down, Sirius optics in Brisbane is set to close on 30th of April this year.

So sad to hear yet another shop will be lost.

VERY sad to me - I bought my first truly serious equipment from Ron. Always had great service too - whilst not always the cheapest, he would always give me mate's rates and be HONEST too.

I hope Ron has a restful retirement at least - he's just around the corner from me too.

Closing of Sirius Optics

Hi All,
Sirius Optics will close it's doors for the last time on 30th April due to my wish to retire and the ongoing health problems of my wife. Sirius Optics was lucky to have all of those customers who purchased from me and many, many became personal friends that I will cherish for the rest of my life. My great enjoyment was to attend the Qld Astrofest each year and to be a major sponsor. It allowed me to catch up with those customers from fields afar and enjoy their company. I hope that those 'budding' astronomers that I have tried to help on their journey, succeed and enjoy the wonders of the night sky.

My wife and I thank you all from the bottoms of our hearts.

Ron

I have shopped there many times and have always been very happy with the service. Sad to see yet another telescope shop close, but best wishes to Ron and his wife for a happy and well deserved retirement.

Just curious Ron; were you unable to find someone with a bit of relevant knowledge to buy the business, or did you not want to do that for some reason?

Hi Raymo,

Unfortunately, there was a couple of people interested in buying but the banks would not lend them money even though I had offered to part finance the purchase.

That's so sad .
I bought my 10" dob from their amongst other things and Ron helped me out so much when I first started out.
Sure a bit on the pricey side, but they had a huge range of equipment and were big on knowledge. No pun intended, but they were a "serious" telescope shop. Such a shame no one could come up with the money to buy it.

Ron, I wish you all the best.

I'll be sorry to see them go too. Sirius sold my father his 8" LX90 a bit over a year ago, which is what got me back into Backyard Astronomy after all these years!

It's sad to see another supplier go. I bought my PST from Ron (I might have bought other stuff too from time to time...), but still I hope Ron enjoys his retirement. That's what its for.
