Smoking Man

Hi All,

Inspired by Andy's rendition of this object.

Over the past few months we have been blessed with many clear nights, unfortunately my camera has been in repair. It arrived back last Friday and during the week I acquired the data for this image. This is part of the extended region around the Eta Carina nebula. It is recorded in narrowband, so the colours represent different atoms, Red for Sulphur, Green for Hydrogen and Blue for Oxygen. I have tweaked the colours as the Hydrogen emissions would overpower the other two, and I think it looks nicer this way. This is a combination of 89 x 10 minute sub exposures for a total of almost 15 hours total exposure.

Share and Enjoy!

Cheers
Stuart

Nice work Stuart, but IMO the stars need a bit more masking to remove the rings around. it does detract from the image a bit.
I think its worth doing a starless version of this as well.

Cheers
Alistair

Vety fine indeed.

Your filter list specifies "LRGB Ha OIII SII." Does that mean that you used LRGB for the stars, or did you adjust the star colour during processing?

Very best,
Mike

A different interpretation and colour palette Stuart. I don't mind it and it gives a unique look to this dust gas cloud. It must be just out of the field of view on my recent wide field image of Carina. I am about to do another image in another area which I think lends itself to a similar view. The whole nebula has several interesting areas worth separate and distinct images.
