Cone from home

Hi everyone.

Shot some subs to test the FOV on the cone and Christmas tree cluster as I want to image it as a secondary target at IISAC. I'm having trouble deciding whether to shoot it up there at 560mm or 1980mm. Ended up getting just under 3 hrs with hyperstar lens (@ 560mm) so I thought I'd process it to see how it scrubs up from home.

176 x 60 sec subs. Canon 60Da - ISO 800 , Backyard EOS reporting sensor temps of 28c Looking forward to winter.
C11 Edge HD with Hyperstar lens.

Processed in pixinsight

I'll image it again at IISAC, it will be interesting to compare the data.

Large click here

Thanks for looking

Cheers

Rod

Edit: I've uploaded a second image with the Nebula pushed and some colour saturation added.

And that's a seriously good image Rod! I think it would take some more saturation too.

Cheers

Looks very good Rod. That's a faint one. I'd boost the star lum a little. Looks a little muted at the moment, but that might well have been clouds. Weather's a shocker.

That's really nice Rod, great effort considering the weather and light pollution

Cheers Steve! Yeah I'm usually a little conservative when pushing the colours. I'll have a play with them, thanks for the feed back.

Thanks Rick! I'm quite excited about imaging it again at Lostock.

Cheers Marc! Yes very faint indeed. Its the first time I've imaged it, if it wasn't for the Christmas tree cluster I would have been questioning the scopes goto accuracy. The stars are my fault, I tried some masked stretched techniques to help retain colours but I agree, they're a bit choked.

Hi Rod,
well done - some nice data.
I think you could improve a bit on the processing
to bring the nebula out of the darkness.
I had a bit of play here.
I hope you don't mind?

cheers

Cheers Al , looks good. I assume you just pushed the neb with curves? I've uploaded a revision in post #1. Thanks for the feedback.

Yes - that's better.
I had to use curves & I also got rid of the stars before I did it -
then added them back later + a slight colour boost.
I use fill & content aware in Photoshop + Fitswork4 -
make stars smaller - anything to get rid of the stars.
Then you can work on stretching the nebula without
ending up with a mass of blinding stars.

cheers
