An interesting morning

Well this morning proved to be an interesting one.

We had a Tiger snake that had got stuck in the chook wire around the vege garden and the more it twisted the more it was injuring itself.

A quick call to WIRES and a young lady came out to help. Firstly we cut around the wire to get it to a spot where it was more open and where we could remove the rest of the wire. Once that was done she then gave it a shot of antibiotics followed by bathing the cut with Betadine and applying some antiseptic cream.

She then took it away for some R&R before its eventual release back into the bush to continue its life

Good on you Ric, too many people are quick to kill snakes without understanding anything about them or their role in the environment.

Good job Ric. We had a red belly black snake here a week or so ago. Called the local snake guy out and of course we couldn't find it. Plenty of rain forest and bush here for it and others like it to call home. Not worried for us but our border collies might try and round one up.

Red-Bellies keep the bad buggers like browns and tigers away. They're very territorial, but not aggressive towards humans. I'm glad when I see ours on our block.

I was told by a local landcare officer the other day that results of a new study shows that a red belly black will eat on average 70 brown snakes during it's life!
