Dreyer's Nebula IC447 in Monoceros
Hello,
A re-processing of an image I photographed last January at Coonabarabran.
The large blue object is IC447 and along with the smaller objects, I have seen it referred to as Dreyer's Nebula.
I found it by mistake while looking for the Cone Nebula. In fact, initially, I thought I was photographing the Cone Nebula.
A total exposure of 660 minutes comprising 47 frames of 10 and 20 minute exposures.
The photo is here

Original size here

What do you think?
Thanks for looking.
Ross.

Yes, excellent Ross. Star colour and just processing generally is very appropriate and balanced, expertly presented.

Thank you Mike.
The Televue is good but it's the dark, clear skies of Coonabarabran that make the biggest difference.

Glad you like it Paul. Thank you.
I have to say, apart from M31, it is the most beautiful object I have photographed.
I was at Wiruna 2 weeks ago to photograph Comet Lovejoy. After it set I managed another 3.5 hours on this object. I'll see if I can add the data and if it makes a difference.

It's beauty and detail did catch me by surprise.
I photographed it again 2 weeks ago at Wiruna. I will try to combine the data and see if it improves the photo.

Your long focal length telescope could produce some amazing photos of parts of this object.

This object is perfect for your 8" F4 and the blues would come out well with your cooled DSLR.

Thank Greg.
It's a beautiful object but quite dim.
It took over 10 hours of exposure to bring out the detail and colours.
Glad you like it.
