Lx600 Meade

Is the Meade LX600 featuring star-lock and the X-wedge worth its huge price tag? I am very new to astronomy and I have not even once pointed a camera at the stars but..... at sometime in the future I will be looking at acquiring the nearest thing possible to point&shoot for Astrophotography, there may not be such a thing but from what I have read the Meade LX 600 with Star Lock comes the closest, with that in mind is the LX600 worth its huge price tag? Would someone who is experienced in Astrophotography use the Meade LX 600? Or is Star Lock marketing hype?

I expect (meaning using the mental approach that marketing will say anything to get you to part with your gelt) that it works quite well but not as well as a system built from tried and tested methods with top quality items that would probably cost you less to set up on your own.
Meade are known for good optics and quite ordinary mounts and firmware.

Im still a newb at Astrophotography but something i have found is buying bits & pieces of second hand grear and then getting it all to fit and work is much much cheaper and million times more rewarding than going out to blow your money on the next best thing.
