Anyone into cycling - Tyre Recommendation

Looking at getting back into cycling keeping off the roads and sticking to the bike tracks. Looking for suggestions on tyre brands that offer good resistance to punctures.

Road bike, Mountain bike or an "inbetweener" Hans?

I use Continental GrandPrix 4000S in 700x23 on my road bike, so far I have had no punctures in about 3500 klms of road & bike path use.

On my mountain bike I use Maxxis Ignitors and have had no punctures in 5 years, mostly ridden on broken rock surface of Snowy Mountains trails.

The most important thing is to have them inflated correctly, I run 100psi front & 110psi rear on my road bike. 45 front / 50 rear on my mtb.

'Pinch flats' are common on mountain bikes with under inflated tyres.

MTB: Schwalbe (I use Fat Alberts). Failing that, Maxxis (Crossmark on mine)
Road: Continental

I use Schwalbes as well on my MTB, they're lightweight but not as grippy as some, I never run them above 30 PSI, hardcore MTB riders run tubeless (not me...)

If you're after lightweight there are available clear tubes that are reportedly puncture resistant and lightweight. http://www.bikeradar.com/au/news/art...r-tubes-36351/.

Cell Bikes have a tube brand called FOSS which are the same. http://www.cellbikes.com.au/Bike-Parts/Tubes

"45 front / 50 rear on my mtb." Matt i dont know how you MT with those pressures..pinch flats can be common but it depends on your body weight & how you ride.
i am running tubeless now & the question of pressure is basically how long can you run without punctures..on my front it sits just above 20psi -i need a bit more -close to 30 in the back--maxxis is popular as is schwalbe

on my rd bike i run about 90psi usually-i like to run tubulars on my roadie.. a lot of people run Conti somethings & are ahppy with them for general use

Hans if i were you i would buy a 1L bottle of stans sealant [no mater hat your tyres] get a valve stem remover & squirt some sealant into your tubes rd -20ml & MTB 50-60ml...we were MTBing at balckwood last saturday -my mate behind me had sealant pissing on his leg from a hole -by the time he pulled up , got off & checked it the sealant had sealed it up -we continued riding no problems

of the 10000km's i did this year i think i got 2 punc -one on my road training bike [it was wellworn] & 1 tubular puncture

20-30psi is OK for you lightweights, if I ran mine that low I would be riding on the rims
+1 on the Stans sealant as a backup measure.
