Milky Way Mosaic Project - Let's start...

Hello All,

This year I started a quite ambitious task. To map all the Milky Way to have a nice mosaic of all of it. A friend of mine has started something similar, with more or less the same equipment, and I'd like to try the same adventure. Today I show you the first frame of the Milky Way I imaged, centred roughly around the Aquila constellation.

C&C always welcome

Nicola

I wish you all the best Nicola, and with that first image I reckon we can expect a wonderful result, very nice indeed.

Very Nice Nicola! i will be watching this space. I can't wait to see this project come together. I wish I had the patience for something like this, but unfortunately I don't.

Thanks a lot to all of you! I'll keep updating this thread when there is a new processed addition to the mosaic.

I've just added the second frame to the mosaic project. This is kind of the western part of Aquila, which contains part of the "upper part of the Milky Way" cap. Interesting to notice the dust clouds around the main MW stream.

Nice project nicola

I did a big mosaic a few months ago and was able to get to 50 frames, they are very rewarding.

Hi Jo, it is rewarding indeed, but I have a long way to get all those frames. The bad news is that I have some frames from the southern sky,but they were taken with a different telephoto lens and I don't know if I can put them together....I'll see what I can do.

Added frame #3 to the Mosaic: moving slightly up on declination. I changed the frame orientation because the milky way moves up but the screens are horizontal so it is best displayed this way.

Added a new panel, this time including the Delphinus and the lowest part of Cygnus. In the lowest left corner you may see a tiny Veil Nebula popping out...
