This time the seller renegs on a deal
I think some IISpacers have at some time or other had buyers pull out of a deal without explanation or the courtesy to make contact regarding the sale.
In my case recently, the roles were reversed. I was first in the queue to purchase a Dob from the IIS classifieds, contact and arrangements were duly made to purchase the scope, but then after a few days of no communication from the seller and a number of PM's/emails, still nothing after nearly two weeks ? I had the seller's phone number which in hindsight I should have made contact earlier. No need for details, put simply, the seller found a buyer closer to home and acquired a faster payment I suppose. No real apologies from the seller, it would have been nice to have some sort of communication, however ...... I can understand if a seller withdraws from a sale and wants to keep an item but ....
Is this a case of "buyer beware"

I think the same things happen on both sides either seller or buyer so it is just a case of accepting it. Sometimes circumstances just intervene that make contact a lesser priority.
However I do tend to notice that email and web formats/forums tend to provide some people with a certain anonymity that makes them abandon many of the normal rules of common courtesy, contact and politeness that I grew up with in the pre-internet days

The sales is not made until payment is made so first to pay first served. That's the way I see it. In the past I've had buyers going on and on so you're holding an item then end up knocking other interested people. At the end of the day if the buyer is genuinely interested in the item and has read all the description and shipping instructions the only communication needed would be what's your BSB and acct#. Period. That keeps it simple IMHO.

Payment by PayPal is instantaneous, and by Bank Transfer takes around two days.
Is payment speed really that much of an issue?

Yes that's true only if you personally go into the bank and make a deposit into someone's account n not via internet banking , 2-3 days normally ( and we all know what that money is doing for those lost few days , now don't we ,, ) .
But on the seller reneging , I it happen to me for the first time only 2 weeks ago , I am a bit miffed !!! , then the same item shows up in the classifieds , I just hope its not the beginning of a trend ,, , it is first in first served with me .

First in should always be first served. You don't deal with anyone until first in either doesn't respond, or opts out.
If there is interest from a few people, then as a seller, you should be able to calmly work your way through the list. This isn't house and land ... gazumping should be frowned upon.

Proof of payment is enough. CCd email or PDF, screen grab, whatever. Don't care about the clearance of funds until shipping. But I won't hold an item on any "I'm going to...". Simple business. Man, if someone says I want it ask for bank details and pay. Done. Finito.

My bank is always AT LEAST next business day for transfers to external accounts, sometimes longer, but can be same day for transfers to other accounts with the same bank.
I take a snapshot of my on-line inter-bank transaction record, and email to the seller as "Proof of Purchase", and I don't expect them to start shipping until the funds are actually deposited into their account.

I just sold a scope the other day. Payment was made to my account from a different bank. That night the money came through, less than 7 hours
