Landscape lens?

Hi everyone,

Just wondering if anyone could recommend to a friend of mine a good quality nikkor lens for landscape photography. He has about 1k to spend and open to other suggestions.

Cheers

If it isn't full frame the Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 is not exactly cheap but is pretty good value. Image quality does drop off a bit at f/2.8 but is still OK.

If it's a full frame camera you can still use it but you will get vignetting below 13mm. I might comment further when I get the a-mount to e-mount adapter so I can use it on my Sony a7s.

OK, the a-mount to e-mount adapter turned up today. Here are three examples from the Tokina on my a7s. The first is in APS-C mode, the others in full-frame. It looks like you can't go below 15mm without some vignetting. EXIF data for the raw images (before shrinking to 33% and 80% quality for upload).

I use the AF-S 17-35mm F2.8 these go for around $1K used, but test it first to make sure it is not noisy.
(the SWM can get rather squeaky, this does not matter for landscapes as you would be focusing manually anyway)
