Celestron have finally released a beta firmware version for the "Nexstar plus" hand control that addresses the southern hemisphere "All Star Polar alignment" bug.
I installed the firmware last night and performed an indoor test as the clouds wont go away. All went very well and reports from other southern hemisphere users are coming back successful.
I dont think it will be very long until Celestron release this firmware publicly.
If you are a member of the Team Celestron forum the beta firmware version can be downloaded there.
It is good news though I'll wait until the de-bugged version is available. I'm quite impressed with the AVX mount and the aspa is the only thing missing.
I like my AVX for the goto accuracy, but my attempts at drift aligning it have been frustrating to say the least. Having the ASPA working will be the icing on the cake.
Apologies for being OT, but has anyone successfully tuned out the backlash?
The backlash in my mount comes and goes. Sometimes it is not there and sometimes it is, like last night. Just enough to be noticeable.
I also haven't been able to do a drift alignment with it but the goto is excellent, puts the target close to the center of the eyepiece fov nearly every time.
Just an update, my controller has been returned to andrews to be checked and replaced. According to Celestron others have reported the same issue but they don't know what's causing it.
