Current Moon Phase

Driving to work this morning I noticed a beautiful waning crescent Moon in the north-east sky and illuminated on the right from a Sun about to rise.

Please give me a good argument as to why the IceInSpace moon phase is a northern hemisphere view showing the Moon illuminated from the left?

Is it supposed to be a telescopic view and if so why and why only then cater for one type of telescope as the view matches that of a refractor with no diagonal or a reflector but it depends on how you turn your head and on which side you are standing on.

To see the Moon unaided as it is represented means facing south and arching over like a gymnast. Are we catering for northern hemisphere readers and if so why? We are a southern hemisphere site.

I have brought this up before privately and bring this up now after seeing the correct representation on another web site; http://www.loweobservatory.com/sky-info.html and welcome open discussion.

My Moon thingy is showing it illuminated from the right.

Perhaps it might be because your geocoordinates aren't filled in in your profile? Just a guess.

OK. back to square one. The correct Moon phase only works when logged in. Why not have a southern hemisphere view when not logged in?

It's been discussed numerous times before.
Mojo himself posted about this in the thread below.

Yes but this still only works when logged in. Why not have a default southern hemisphere view for a southern hemisphere web site as I have seen on another site just recently?

Is there a way to set a cookie to remember the settings even when not logged in? I do have third party cookies turned off so I'll try and include iceinspace on the allowed list and see what happens.

It's an "international standard" type thing, to show it in the northern hemisphere orientation.

Just stay logged in! Click 'remember me' when logging in.

Yes I was afraid of that answer. So the Lowe observatory site is representing a non standard correct view for us southerners.

On another matter then, if I stay logged in how can attachments be displayed as pictures instead of links.

The Lowe Observatory must be using some other kind of Moon applet. The one here is likely a northern hemisphere-centric one.

As for the attachments:

User CP > Edit Options > Enhanced Image Browser (down the bottom).

I think that should do it.

No that wasn't it (already set) but I did find it up the page a little. It's called "Visible Post Elements" and I ticked "Show Images".

Thanks for your help.
