M33 with psuedo Ha

This has been sitting on the hard drive for a couple of weeks waiting for the moon and clouds to clear off so I can get more data. But it's raining and I'm bored, so I thought I'd have a play. This is M33 in Triangulum from July 29. Skywatcher BD ED100 at F7.2 with an Orion focal reducer, 15 x 4 minute subs, Pentax K-5, HEQ5 Pro, guiding with PHD.

As usual with galaxy pics from this camera, they come out all blue. It looked boring blue and even worse with less saturation so thought I'd play with the channel mixer in selected regions. Some of the "Ha" is real, some of it not so much.

Bigger here. http://astrob.in/113505/0/

Hi Peter. No filters used for this shot other than a UV/IR cut filter.

Nice one Kevin lots of star forming regions in there, so which are real and which are jpeg compression artefacts?

I noticed my Andromeda shots recently had quite a blue push to them, but seems to be a very fine line...before they end up a dirty yellow-orange, a bit like our MW above

You guys keep giving me ideas for what to image next year...

They're not artifacts. The data is real, the colour has just been shifted in certain areas. Going by a comparison image with real Ha, it's close.

Blame Justin. He inspired me with his M83 image.

That's quite nice for such a difficult northern target!

Thanks Rick. I'm a bit closer to the equator than most so she gets to 38 degrees here at the meridian. Big old M31 is harder. Only 27 degrees and they planted a streetlight or two in the low north.

Shame about the streetlight, Kevin! M31 should be feasible otherwise. I did a halfway acceptable version from Leyburn a couple of years back.

That's a good M33!

Low altitude and street lights suck!

Tough from down under.
Here's my attempt fro last year.

Cheers,

That's a nice one Justin. I was planning to give M33 more time, but there are so many comets coming up I don't know when I will get a chance next. Probably when there is a comet close by!
