Blues Guiter great has left us

It is with great sadness that I report that Johnny Winter has died, aged 70.

Hasn't been a good week, has it? First Charlie Haden now Johnny. I saw Johnny on TV a few years ago and he looked much older than 70. I think he was also nearly blind. I remember him doing Highway 61 at the Dylan 30th anniversary concert. Man, could he turn it on!

The man was a freak, I saw him in concert with John Mayall's Blues Breakers when I was going college back in the early 70s. I will dig out one of the old vinyl albums and give it a spin in his memory.

Such a talent , Glen you should look for copy of 'John Mayall's 70th Birthday concert' album ,, awesome British blues album and it has Johnny Winter jamming at his best .
RIP Johnny .

I had the good fortune of seeing him live in the 80s.
I was doing foldback for the support band.
As you say "he could really turn it on".
I also loved the work he did in the mid 70s with Muddy Waters.

I just acquired one of my favourite albums from my teenage years: Johnny Winter Live And with the equally good Rick Derringer on second guitar. So sad.
Also worrying is that I am of an age where my heroes are starting to shuffle off the mortal coil.
