Up Up and Away . . . Soon

Got a call from a friend who's Aircraft ( Long EZE ) pronounced ' long easy ' finally arrived.
. . . bought it from Florida US . . 3 months to travel in a crate on a ship.

Most of it is together now ... except the ' front Canard ' that's still in the crate.

I'll do my bit to help out ( yours truly-pic5 ) ( engine ) nice little ' flat four ' fuel injected . . .

Needs to have ' CASA's ' final OK when all is done.... have bought a new ' Transponder ' . . .Avionics boy's will do that . . . . .

Nice to be back in my ' trade ' .. . .albeit for a short time again.

Col . . . .

Nice Col, there is one at our local airport, from memory they're almost impossible to stall and will fly further than most bladders allow on a tankful. is that a Lycoming engine I see?

Burt Rutan sure knows how to design some amazingly aesthetic eye candy when it comes to aeroplanes. Hard to believe that this design is 40 years old. Your friend is truly fortunate.

I've loved his designs since I first saw them as teenager back in the 70's.

Nice!

Good protective packaging for the ailerons (or are they called flaperons or elevons on these canards?!) - they certainly know how to crate!

Just out of interest, what magnitude of $$$s are we dealing with here & does it need to be assembled or at least checked out by a LAME?

How Much $$$ . . . . lets just say not much change out of $80K . . . shipping from the US was ~ $8K.

The owner NOW ( Steve ) ....ex RAF Flight Engineer and an AME ( like myself ) is doing most of the work ( after all ... it is his ' new toy ' ) . . .I'll help as required and needed .....we have a LAME working with us who will ' counter sign ' our work on the appropriate paper work.

Steve has a Pilots License and flew this Aircraft for 10 odd hours in Florida and it's previous owner is an Aerospace Engineer with NASA.

Steve is now working for Virgin Airlines doing ' Push Backs ' .

Col ....

Wow!
I'm impressed that the $$s are less than what many folk happily fork out for a nice car!

But please straighten me out: ailerons, flapperons or elevons?!

(Oh - and does the canard articulate as per Eurofighter?)

$80 K is good value if the engine has decent hours to rune.

My mate is a pilot, he used to fly long haul for Cathay but now does Island hopping around the Caribbean and loves it.

He's got a small one up here still and often takes me for a "I can see my house from here" ride. There's nothing like the thrill and freedom of a small plane.

.... they are still called ' Elevators ' because they operate together . . . not independent of each other.

They control the ' pitch ' of the Aircraft ( up / down ) and are situated on the ' trailing ' edge of the ' Canard ' .

and NO .... the ' Canard ' is fixed . . . do not articulate like the 'Eurofighter'.

. . . the Ailerons are still on the trailing edge of the ' main ' wings.

They land very ' softly ' on the Runway .... very gentle and smooth controls ..... hard to ' stall ' also

Col . . . .

True...but there's nothing quite like when TOGA kicks in... and delivers 280,000 pounds of thrust: and gets you airborne off 24L at LAX either

(Great toy by the way! So far I've resisted such cool toys )
