Jimna Fire Tower

After experiencing some quite heavy rain late in the afternoon I was surprised to see the sky clear very quickly. It inspired me to take an impromptu drive up to Jimna State Forest and do a photo shoot I've been thinking of doing for a while, capturing some night scapes featuring the Heritage Listed Jimna Fire Tower.
And oh boy it was worth it. I experienced the best seeing in years!! The rain had scrubbed that sky so clean and the air so still.
Anyway, here's the best shots of the night/morning.
Cameras - Canon 1100D and Canon 550D
Lenses - Tamron 18 - 200mm Samyang 8mm

The close up of the tower with star trails was one single 32 minute sub.
The wider star trails is built from 222 one minute subs.

Nice shots J, must've been cold out there, the noise in the 1/2 hour shot doesn't look too bad!

Aye, it was a bit chilly.
The 32 min sub was shot at ISO 200, so that helped.
It was so still and quiet up there on top of the range, I could hear my heart beating. Nothing like being on your own in the bush, with only possums for company.

Nice set Jeanette! #3 looks great. I'm thinking of taking the family camping at Jimna in the school holidays next week... will see how the forecast looks in a few days.

Cheers,
Stephen

Really? There wasn't a drop down my way - just cloudless sky.

Nice shots.

It was down below 4 deg here this morning. with the wind it was supposed to feel like 0.8 deg. Must have felt frosty up there. Great subject though and nice results.
