Mars Faces and Modded 300D is back

Hi All,

It's been a while since I got around to posting my attempts of heavens images.

I finally got around to replacing the sensor in my 300D that I accidently destroyed while trying to debayer it. So I finally have a astro modded camera again. I picked up a Canon 40D with a faulty sensor of ebay very cheap (sensor had a line through it on every photo) and bought a replacememnt sensor that is still in the box. My plan is to very, VERY carefullt debayer that replacememnt sensor and if successful replace the fauly sensor in the 40D with the debayered one... wish me luck on debayer attempt number 2.

Finally only a few days ago I got to test out the fixed modded Canon 300D, so I got 10 x 3 minute subs of the Carina Nebula and 20 x 3 minute subs of the Dumbell nebula, all at ISO 800. Only 7 frames were usable of the Carina and 14 were usable of the dumbell due to obvously my polar alignment still being off. I tried to hit M16 but ended up with no usabale frames.

Another thing I discovered... DO NOT USE The NexGuide autoguider to record PEC on a CGEM... I tried and the RA on the CGEM went crazy, started tapping and vibrating when I was trying to slew. Only power cycle fixed that and returned the mount to normal operation.

Thanks for looking.

Mariusz
