Kson UHC Filter Great in my 5" MAK

I bought a new 1.25" Kson UHC filter from Ian Maclean at everythingastronomy.com for $35, as I wanted a better filter for my 5" reflector that I keep in Italy. I hadn't been too happy with my Celestron LPR that I took over there (it's the original Celestron one which is halfway between a broadband and UHC filter).

After many nights of waiting for decent sky, I finally got a chance to test out the Kson UHC filter and used my 5" Mak as a substitute for the 5" reflector, and I was delighted.

I compared the Kson UHC to my Orion Ultrablock (which I quite like in my C8) and to the Celestron LPR. The Ultrablock was too dim and not that contrasty, and the Celestron LPR was brighter and not so contrasty. The Eta Carina and Triffid nebulas were far and away best seen with the Kson UHC in that 5" telescope. I concluded that I'd bought a bargain.

And then it clouded over, and I haven't been able to view anything since.

I'm looking forward to testing it out in other telescopes one day, if this weather ever clears.
Regards,
Renato

I don't think I read this review before. But after finding this filter the review lead me back to here!

I was just wondering if you've been able to test it further or if anyone else has tried it.

It's now gone up to $40 but if it is good it's still a bargain.

I haven't actually used the 1.25" Kson UHC filter much since the review below because I got an adapter for my 5" MAK and started using 2" eyepieces in it. Then I got annoyed and went and bought a 2" Kson UHC filter for those eyepieces.

My opinion is that for me the Kson is best for a telescope in the 5" range. I've finally remounted my C8, so in a few weeks I'll be comparing the Kson to the Ultrablock in it to see what I see.
Regards,
Renato

Hi Brent,
No, I'm only into visual.
Cheers,
