older ST8E parallel (to USB?)

I have a chance of getting an older ST8E, but it's for parallel connections.
Has anyone had experience of operating these SBIG cameras on USB???
What about something like this bi-direction adaptor????

I don't think it works.
My ST9E is a parallel one and it only works on a native parallel port. I bought a card with 2 serial ports and a parallel port on it that plugged into the motherboard and even it didn't work. The native port on my very old xp puter works perfectly well.

My old SBIG ST7E also has a Parallel Port and my 2002 era IBM ThinkPad Notebook didn’t have one, but the IBM Docking Station did have a Parallel Port and that did work.

It is worth noting that the IBM Docking Station connected through an OEM connector on the ThinkPad - it was not a generic unit that connects via a USB cable.

The download speeds were excruciatingly slow for the parallel connector, some 16 secs for each frame for my ST7E which was only some 760x510 pixels.

Cheers

Dennis
