A massive star in Scorpius

I finished my run for the night on my current mega data project (yes, yes...believe it or not...I had to go for one eventually huh? ) and not wanting to waste any time doing a meridian flip I had a 3hr window before sunup soooo here is a happy snap of NGC 6357 and its massive star cluster Pismis 24 in Scorpio

This is an HaRGB image

A massive star in Scorpius

Here is a close up showing the massive multiple star system Pismis 24-1

Cheers

That little knot in the middle does have an Oiii component btw,
it is observable with the human eye with reasonable aperture and dark sky.

I'll have a look at it at SPSP in May...bout the only time I ever stick an eye to an eyepiece these days

You'd be unstoppable!

Would't it be nice if all amatuer astronomers chipped in to send a telescope into orbit and then took turns at taking happy snaps, yes it would take a mulitude of $$$ but it would be great! Snap out of it I'm day-dreaming

Excellent imaging Mike, the close up comparison is excellent - looking forward to seeing the final product!

Impressive work! Like the comparison with the Hubble pic. Amazing work considering that the Hubble had 10x the resolution of any ground based telescope when it was launched (after fixing the optical error). Scope in orbit! Yeah, with you on that! - they so need to get a waddle on to get that space elevator in action!

Cheers Troy, yeah whack your scope in the elevator, arrive at the top, setup, two star align and you'd be away

Well thanks Dave, probably a fair assessment, cheers

Funny, as processing progresses the "look" I'm after seems to evolve, in this case I tried to produce a more fine detail gaseous look, so although not as bold as usual, hopefully it looks like stars floating in gas..?

Well ... yes, the stars are nicely blended in the nebula with a less sharpened look to the nebula overall, so a more "gaseous" look and feel to it. ... probably a more accurate portrayal as opposed to highly sharpened features.
