RJ232 to Serial

I have the Synscan system on my Vixen GPD2 mount, hich uses the Rj232/RJ232 connection system hand controller to MCB.

Now I have an NEQ6 again, I of course need an RJ12 to serial (male) connection. Can I simply go to Jaycar and get an RJ232 to Serial (male) adapter (plug straight in the back of the serial connector), or is there going to be wire crossovers etc that won't work.

Maybe I just need to order a new cable from Tasco or get one of you electo wizards to make me up a LONG, non-coiled RJ232 to serial cable

Yes, I have EQMOD and the shoestring adapter, but I really prefer to leave out as many USB connections as I can to be honest. I know my targets for the night, so I don't need to see them in Stellarium etc. I just need the RA/DEc or NGC/M/IC etc number

Appreciate the help. Have asked Steve Massey so should have an answer from a retailer soon I guess, but like to hear of any other options.

Thanks.

yeah, I meant RJ45 (HC socket) to DB9 male. I see I can get one pre-made on eBay for $4.50

Wiring diagram EQ6 to hand controller cable.

Here is a link to the diagram to make the cable yourself.
It is not a 1 to 1 cable as a lot of people think .

http://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/s...ad.php?t=21956

You could use a DB9 to RJ45 converter and put the pins in the db9 plug to correspond to the
diagram ,when you buy the plug the pins are not in the db9 you have to push them in what hole you want them in, making this the easiest way to make the cable up to the diagram in the link .
As for the cable on ebay unless it says it is for the EQ6 the pinout will not be the same as this diagram.

Made a sample cable up with RJ45 plugs at each end one is upside down! so when you plug it into the hand controller pin 1 is on the right when you plug the other end into the converter pin 1 is
on the right.
Now using a Multimeter you can work the pins out to the diagram link.

The rolls of cable in the picture are 4,6 and 8 strand flat cable.

For this cable you can use the 8 wire flat cable.

Lewis, follow what Kathy said, you can't simply buy an adapter off the shelf from Jaycar with the correct pinout. That said, Jaycar do have the configurable RJ45 to DB9 connectors.

Bought one - they only have female DB9's, so had to buy a male-male converter to.

So, using the original Synscan RJ45/RJ45 cable (as used with the EQ3/EQ5/HEQ5 mounts), all I need do is push the pins in the right holes in the DB9 adapter? Is the original cable a cross-over cable, so things are reversed?

Bugger it, might just buy a Tasco replacement
