First attempts at the sun in Ha

I purchased a secondhand Lunt LS60THa scope from another member here a couple of weeks ago.

I've had two goes at imaging through it using my Nikon 1 V1 on a t-mount adapter on the eyepiece tube.

First try (mono and colour versions - the colour is just the red channel)

Same frame, but with the colour left in as seen by the camera

Second try was yesterday afternoon (again, it's a single frame), processed with wavelets in Registax, then tweaked in Photoshop.

Nice. It is a real struggle imaging Ha using a colour camera. To get the most out of that scope, give a mono camera a go.

Yes it is Poita, I've learnt that the mono astro cameras are where I need to be going. They just seem such poor value to me as a serious photographer.
No viewfinder, minimal/no controls, ridiculously low resolution and so on compared to my normal cameras.
I'm dreaming of a DMK51 or a Grasshopper Express, and making enquiries about a secondhand Flea 3.
