There are a few tutorials online - some better than others. There's an IIS article by Mike Salway on planetary processing, if a little dated now.

I'm still learning Registax, but incremental experimentation is a good approach - you learn what works and what doesn't. Techniques and strength used varies a bit with data, so I don't think there's a universal approach, unfortunately.
