Farmers Delight

Red sky at night.........
Aurora Australis, Southern NSW, Australia. 20/02/2014

For those who are at higher latitudes than my -35 degrees location in Australia there has been some great aurora activity over the past few days. Given my position the aurora activity was not strong enough to get any of those wonderful greens but I was still able to pick up the higher altitude reds/pinks/purples low down on the horizon. I was heading home from playing tennis when I decided to pull over to the side of the road to do a test shot as I knew there was a chance of aurora and I had picked up a little bit of colour the previous night in between clouds. Needless to say it was quite a long time before I eventually made it home.
Canon 5D MkII, 14mm, F/2.8, ISO 3200, 30 seconds.

Hope you catch it from that far north one night Mike (because then it would be an epic one down here (and probably covering the whole sky in Tas)).

Awesome work as usual Greg, love the composition. Was the moon just rising and lighting up the foreground for you? Or was this just before the moon rise?

No moonlight what so ever Matt. Just starlight lighting the foreground.

Thank you so much for the great feedback Pat. I try to focus a lot on composition in my images. In fact I missed the best part of this aurora display as I was trying to find the best angle to shoot this.
