Hi all, I was just wondering how other people moved their dobs around. I keep my scope inside so I have to Carrie it out to my position (backyard) when I want to use it, I take it off the mount & do two trips. Is this what everyone else with a dob has to do??

I made a dolly – a wooden (MDF) base with 4 wheels to move my 8” DOB. The scope sits permanently on the dolly in the room it’s stored in. When I want to use it I just push the dolly through the house to the back door. My main viewing area is close to the back door so I just lift the scope off the dolly and carry it into the back yard.

I’m an old fella so it makes moving the heavy scope a breeze, and a lot easier than pulling it apart each time I want to use it. And because it’s all so easy, I’m sure I use it much more than I would otherwise, which works in well with the old saying “the best scope is the one you use the most”.

I see you’re a carpenter Matt, so I imagine knocking up some sort of dolly shouldn’t be a problem

Cheers, Bill
