Eta Carina

Hi guys,

Got my DSLR modified a few weeks back and had first light at the Leon Mow Dark Sky site up in Heathcote the last 2 nights.

Attached is the first object I shot - Eta Carina - 26 x 300 seconds at ISO 1600.

The camera other than not being cooled really rocks! It's only a 400D but is light weight which suits my set up and generally has low noise levels.

Taken with a JMI NGT 12.5" f/5 scope.

Only my first go at processing this and will play around more with the image including a crop.

High res version here:

Looks pretty good John.
So the mod was worth it then? Was it a DIY or did you have someone do it?

I picked up a used 1000D off of ebay last week to attempt a mod so I can't wait to try it out ( once I get around to doing it ).

Mod defenitely worth it.

I sent mine to Peter Tan in HK for the mod - but if you can do it yourself for sure the way to go.

I have now re-processed my image and uploaded to a new folder here:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/johnkazanas/12298145193/

Although due to the exposure levels there is very little in terms of the star colours and the core is slightly over exposed it a good progression in my learning curve I feel in what was my second attempt at this object.

Although I did do a star mark, reducing the star size and playing with layers in CS3 was beneficial.

Very happy now with this camera set up.

Comments welcome.

Clear skies.
John.
