Another Mars from Melbourne

I recently bought a set of Astrodon filters, here on IIS, and yesterday finished making a filter wheel assembly for them, so this morning I retired my old Edmund RGB filters.
As expected the new ones let more light through, due to wider pass band for each colour, but the resulting RGB image has less colour saturation. At least that is my first impression. It's probably too early to judge as the seeing was very marginal - I had to do a lot of processing to produce a passable image.

I will be trying to re-process my data as it was a real rush job in the early hours and feel I can get way more out.

I am using the Type 2 Astronomics Filters - have heard good things about the Astrodon filters.

However, I have recently purchased also an IR 685 filter which should give some better results in the deep Red as well.

Lets see how the seeing in Melbourne co-operates, but perhaps I will also shoot Mars from the ASV LMDSS site close to next new moon when I do some deep sky stuff.

I will have to get one of those IR pass filters too eventually but first I need a camera upgrade, although it's not urgent because Mars has high surface brightness and I want to see what difference the new filters make. Anyway my favourite planet is back and it's going to be fun...weather permitting.
