As 2013 draws to a close and I am unlikely to get a chance for anymore imagery this year, its time to drop the final cut of my Astrophotography video (journey).
I started astrophotography this year and it has been a blast. After spending a few years researching everything and then finally taking the plunge into the hobby, I quickly discovered just how difficult it actually is... and that's just getting the data. Then there's this thing called "processing" - what a nightmare...
Anyway, looking ahead I am pretty excited for the years to come. It is going to take a bit to get close to the level of the who vets post on here. In the meantime keep sharing your images, experiences, and opinions. It will help us all improve and contribute to something special - our appreciation of what exists beyond our little rock.
Some images are actually processed test data I acquired while testing gear / figuring out how to focus etc, so zoomy videos tend to not treat them kindly (warts and all). NGC1365 (first image in the video) is a test image from the CDK, only 1 hour of data (50minutes luminance, followed by single RGB exposures to get a colour map). Orion Nebula is about 30minutes of total exposure (first test run with the FSQ and STT). The Trifid wide field image is probably the only one I am proud of, not sure if this video does it justice, but the 93MB 32bit final processed image looks great.
Also attached to this thread (so I can get a thumbnail
) is my final image for the year, The Horsehead Nebula (LRGB). Only a few hours of data over one night, but enough to get a feel for the new telescope (CDK12.5) which I can't wait to get full use of in the coming year.
