What a storm that was!

We were hit pretty hard late last night by an electrical storm to beat the band. Wow. Fast moving but intense lightning for about 30 minutes with strike after strike all very close - too darned close. Our electricity supply comes through a transformer about 200 yards from the house and it seems to have taken a hit - but to their credit, Energex were here within the hour and had it fixed by 1 a.m. Thank you Energex.

The real damage is starting to add up this morning though. The storm caught us by surprise and sound asleep so I hadn't unplugged stuff in the observatory. So far the damage is one fried computer and one mount control electrics also seemingly non-functional. I'm going to do a CMOS reset shortly to see if it can be salvaged. Fingers crossed.

I hope others fared a bit better.

Peter

Hi Peter,
Yucky storm indeed. I was looking to do some Geminids viewing. I was watching the black and red spot on the BOM radar site moving up from the south. I have noticed that bad storms for my area only have come from the south. They move north. All other storms are mild in comparison.

So, I was worried. However it fizzled out as it closed in on us.
However I was aware that anyone in the storm's earlier path would have had a belting.

So Peter, here's hoping that the damage is minimal. It takes a long time to replace 'toys' Even when insured. In ten years here we have had lightning strike damage three times and a roof replacement from large hail once.

Cheers
