Saturday night storm

Hello!!

Well a pretty decent storm headed north from Beaudesert through Ipswich and across the Brisbane River to the west of the city tonight. As this was to the west of me I had a good view of the proceedings. I've always wanted to get a shot of lightning so I went for the old "keep the shutter open" play and took a series of 30" shots.

I couldn't believe how many times I missed the lightning as it happened between shots! Anyway I managed to get one and here it is...

Cheers,
Mario

Thanks everyone for the kind thoughts!

I've just bought Lightroom 5 and as a consequence I'm now shooting RAWs as well as JPEGs. I'm very glad I am because the JPEG of this image was overpowered (not surprisingly) in the central lightning area. The RAW allowed me to recover a lot of detail that would otherwise have been lost.

I used to hate the clouds but now I'm learning that they can be my friend too.... at times!

Cheers,
Mario
