Riding with the Horsie

Hi all,

Got a 80ED (once again) in my arsenal and figured what a better way to test it out then a nice widefield of the Horsehead area I used my CCDT67 which seems to work very well with refractors, turning the 80ED into a 400mm f/5 scope

Mount: NEQ6
Imaging Train: Orion 80ED - CCDT67 Reducer - OAG - FW - QHY9M
Guiding: Lodestar used with a TSOAG9, 3sec guiding
Ha - 1200sec * 4 Subs
RGB - Credit to John's (Scagman) image with a 120ED + QHY8C, I will post a link to his work once he uploads his images
Image processing: Captured in Maxim 5, Stacked in DSS, Edited in Startools, Slight touch up in Photoshop CS6

Image 1 - Stacked subs with a very rough stretch in DSS
Image 2 - Edited Ha Image
Image 3 - John's RGB added with my edited Ha as L (Just roughly rotated and resized to match mine in Photoshop, no means a proper HaRGB)
Image 4 - Cropped version of 3

Pros - I was extremely pleased with the results For only 1h20min I was quite surprised the amount of data I got. First time I used startools as well to edit an image and WOW what a difference it makes. Really makes my old CS6 ways look prehistoric! Special mention to John for letting me use his amazing OSC image (I won't post the original as that's for him to show off ) and to Alistair (Alistairsam) for giving workflow for me to work through

Cons - My PA wasn't really that great (hurry up pier!) and unfortunately only 4 subs came out well. I also noticed there was significant tilt/curvature in the image; I had the exact same issue and orientation with my RC8. I thought it was poor collimation but surely the refractor wouldn't be out Closer inspection revealed the problem - my OAG wasn't sitting flush with the FW, with one end raised up approx 2mm Explains alot! One step at a night I suppose.

As always, thank you for viewing and clear skies!

That horsehead looks so radioactive, looks like it's back-lit, great pic.

Haha! Thanks, I think the radioactivity it owed to my poor processing skills
