Ic 2116

Hi All,

One of the lesser imaged parts of the LMC.

IC 2116 in Ha RGB, 10.5 hours total, 7.5 Ha, 1 each for RGB (binned 1x1?!).

Share and Enjoy.

Cheers
Stuart

That's a really beautiful image Stuart. One of your finest. Is that a new scope?

Greg.

Hi Greg,
Thanks for the compliment. Nope same ASA N12 I've had for about a year now.

I did finally get my PMX up and running though, I had a failed motor.

Cheers
Stu

I'm impressed with how well the 8300 works with short FL scopes. Very sharp and small stars you have there. I like the Ha version.

Nice image, Stuart! I notice you have the same minor artifacts around the bright star as I see with my SX H-18. I presume it is caused by the KAF-8300 microlenses.

Cheers,
Rick.

Real tidy image Stuart. I like the way you've managed the Ha blend. F/3.6 from the burbs is no small feat. Well done.

Thanks Rick, sometimes scope artefacts are handy, in some of my previous images they've been not quite symmetrical, collimation required! The f/3.6 makes that quite difficult and can only really be assessed using star testing.

Hi Jase, thanks. The RGB are being quite difficult, I get gradients all over the place. HaRGB blending is difficult because of the desaturation effect of the Ha on the RGB, this is a combination of several different methods for reducing this effect. I stumbled across another this morning and gave it a try. Much easier workflow and produces comparable, if not better results, the result is attached, see what you think.

Thanks Justin, I worked quite hard to try to get a nice balance between colour and detail, so this is quite satisfying.

Cheers

agree with other posts - that is a really good image Stuart. The colour balance and the detail in the neb are excellent.

Hi Stu,

Looks great. Very nice detail and it doesn't look desaturated.
are you able to share the link for the HaRGB blending.
I was hoping for a method that doesn't involve photoshop layers.

Cheers
Alistair
