Glory of the Dragonflame

Glory of the Dragonflame - 7/12

As the sun sets, it unleashes these beautiful formations, as sprawling dragonflame across the northwestern sky; complimenting the glorious mountainous formations: The Elephant at centre-left and The Lion at centre-right.

Note the subtle reflection of the blazing clouds in the snow towards the peak of Mount Pembroke.

Made in the middle of winter at magical Milford Sound.

Higher resolution available here.

Canon EOS 5D Mark III, Canon EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM
8s f/16.0 at 50.0mm iso100

Comments, critique, etc., most welcome.

Thanks for looking.

Well, you have a very artistic and somewhat emotional relationship with your Photog H thats for sure
I have a freind who Trecks alot in NZ, I think she has mentioned/been to Milford Sound, so assuming this has been taken there, correct me if not ?
Spectacular scene and capture, if not for my bad back, Id be up them mountains with camera pack, Beautiful areas yep !

On a more layman humble note, finding an ephelant and lion, is ephelant the outline of left dark Mount peak with its ear pokin up, cool. having trouble seeing the lion tho
Awesome view and capture H

Thank you Laurie, Bob and Trevor.

Bob, yes, landscape photography for me is everything. It's all about that precious light. And, yes, this is Milford Sound.

The mountain formations don't necessarily resemble their namesakes in this particular image. In other images, they do.

Thanks for looking and commenting, guys.

Rolf, Jason, Rick and Carlos,

Thank you, gents.

It was a beautiful sight, indeed.

About 20 minutes before I made this, I watched an avalanche take place further to the right. The sound is something I'll never forget.
