Comet R1 Lovejoy Nov 10

ISON was clouded out this morning but R1 Lovejoy was in a gap. I kept shooting 30 second exposures until the clouds rolled over. Here we have about 50 x 30 seconds at ISO 1600 through an SW120mm f5 refractor, no filters, Pentax K-x.

Thanks Laurie and Jo. This may be my last pic of R1 due to the northerly declination from my setup. Every day it heads further north.

That's a gem of a shot with the colour really strong and complete with thin tail.

John.

Thanks John. Looks like it was my only chance at getting a shot near close approach as it's cloudy tonight.

Good image Kevin!

What are you using to stack your frames?

Cheers,

Justin.

Hi Justin. I tried both DSS and registax with identical results. The difference being DSS is a chore to manually select each frame so I'll probably use registax in future if the nucleus is bright enough to track.

Experimenting with animation. Obviously I suck at it, but it's my first try at animating anything!
