NGC1360 - another colourful one

This one was done in windy conditions with the usual bad seeing over the last few nights. Always one of my favourite planetaries. I particularly like the little jet at the lower right.

Cheers

Steve

That dust on the mirror should clean up with a good set of flats!

Beautiful capture Steve. It's a very unusual looking planetary. I wonder if there are any faint outer shells around it that might be revealed in very deep exposures.

Capturing delightful objects like this is where you simply can't beat large aperture narrow field optics.

Nicely done

Thanks Rolf. I don't think there are any shells. This image by Martin:

is the deepest one I've been able to find and it doesn't really show much more than mine does.

Good work Steve!

That jet is something I have not seen before.
I imaged 1360 sometime ago but no sign of a jet, need aperture like yours.

Cheers,

Justin.

Thanks Justin. Actually I think red sensitivity has more to do with it than aperture because the jet is very red. I gather that you do most of your imaging with an unmodified DSLR so you wouldn't record red all that well.

Thanks Mike. What's a pareidolia? Must have missed an earlier post.

Think "The Face on Mars" or Jesus in my toast..or faint star streams emanating from a galaxy that only I and Schiaparelli could see
