Coona Telescopes by Moonlight

This wide panorama was captured up at Coonabarabran, at a point overlooking many of the telescopes up on the mountain.

The 4-metre Australian Astronomical Observatory telescope dome is on the right in the distance. Earlier that day, I was standing on top of the dome!

The bright Moon overhead lights-up the landscape like daytime!

Thanks for looking

Nice shot, Mike! There is a demonic shape to that cloud formation-at least to my eyes!

Very nice. Its obvious where the Australian astronomy community consider the best location for their scopes in Australia.

Greg.

Awesome shot Mike, love it ...and no arching Milky Way either

It looks like the ANU's 2.3m NTT was operating, was the Skymapper next to you there working?

Mike

Thanks Greg. Yeh it's an amazing spot. I'm considering another visit next year during their astrofest.

Cheers Mike Not a milky way in sight

The SkyMapper was working, but we didn't notice for ages It was so windy, that we didn't hear the dome moving or running. Only while scrolling through my images on the back of the camera did I notice the dome moving and said "Hey, it's open )".
