Found this little guy wedged between our fence and nextdoor's shed this morning. Took an hour to extricate him from his predicament, he wasn't happy about being coaxed out but once out put on a few poses for my camera:

Beautiful shot. They are amazing animals. I've raised a few orphans in the past and their personalities range from kitten to psychopathic chainsaws.... I prefer the later!
Thanks Gents, the possums are beautiful indeed. I dare say this one would have died had my German Shepherd not found it. It was trapped by the midrail of a timber fence and could not move in any direction.
I had to rip a few palings off to let him out, he then stayed in the backyard for an hour before scurrying off along the top of the fence.
You've just got to love them Matt and you certainly did this one a great service. Here in the Blue Mountains we have the usual crew turning up every night for a feed on leftovers such as vegetable peelings and the like. This is a trade off of course so they don't decimate our garden, not a bad arrangement really. This time of year we get to stroke the babies which ride on the back of their mum's backs, they look like they are ready to come into land with all there legs spread out. Surprisingly, our cats get on very well with them just quietly ignoring each other, probably because they are used to them being around. The male possums are another story, not the least bit likeable particularly during mating season. Nice sharp pics by the way.

My guess he was trapped for several hours judging by the size of hole my dog had dug under the fence.
The last one I rescued was inside vertical formwork shutters and was only seen when the concreatures started pumping wet crete into the wall. All the big burly blokes were too frightened to stick their hand down the shutter. I donned a welder's glove and grabbed it by the scruff of the neck and cleaned the cement off him before flinging him into a nearby tree.
No thanks from him though, his claws went clean through the welder's gloves. (Ouchie). This guy was probably too tired to fight:
