Mysterious Ha area in Milky Way

Have a look at this Ha image. I have not seen that loopy area of billowing gas in the lower left. Have I discovered something?

It may the Milky Way is rarely imaged widefield in Ha. The only other Ha widefield Milky Way images I have seen are from Eddie Trimarchi.

I saw this in other Ha images I took of the Milky Way.

Is this a known area of gas? I never see it imaged. It looks like a supernova remnant but
it doesn't show up in O111.

Hi Greg. Nice shot.

Microsoft WorldWide Telescope shows the loopy stuff you caught in the lower left of your image though it has no classification. It appears to be just underneath the globular cluster NGC 6388.

That is an interesting image Greg.
I think the nebula on the right of the globular NGC 6388 is RCW 114, diameter 5.5 degrees.

Bugger. Though I haven't seen it before in any shot. I see the example images on the later post - they are very low quality.

Thanks Glen. I can see how it was thought it might be a SNR but the no O111 for me is a giveaway. All the other supernova remnants are quite bright in O111.

Ah, thanks John. I didn't know where that was situated in the MW itself. Now I know. Its a huge band of nebula.

Regarding NGC6188 - tonight (Sep 22) - around 22:00 AEST C/2013 G5 (Catalina) will be in front of NGC6188 - about 5 arcmin centre to centre.

The comet's not going to be very bright - CdC says around mag 12.7

Dark tower is in one part of the shot and the wolf in another par to that shot. As Marc said well documented this area. Nice wide field.

Thanks for that. I hope we have some nice bright comets by Christmas as it was thought earlier in the year.
