Very bleak looking, Peter. There was a lot more ice in the water when we were there and it wasn't so cold...

Bleak it was...but it made for great visibility. The wind picked up as the evening went on. The ice had actually piled up on the eastern shore of the lake.

I quickly worked out that I had to park our hire car into wind, or you risked the doors flying open and off their hinges!

The scenery however, was still amazing. We intend on returning.

P.S. Added another HD image of the ice on the eastern side of the lake, same URL

I had to put a jumper on to view the second image - and I live in North Queensland!

Very cool.

Wonderful landscape Peter. I love the harsh, wild beauty of the North. Hope to return and do the Arctic. More of Alaska, Yukon and North West Territory. Magnificent... very difficult leaving.

Really like the second one. The barely visible mountain range in the back makes the shot. Lot of depth... and dirty ice! Yuck!

Thanks guys... there was so much more to see, but at least we'll have a better idea of where to go/stay next time around.

Fabulous!

It certainly looks a long way from the shops.
