Thank you Iceman

I have been intending to offer praise for the wonderful site but as its always so interesting when I arrive here I overlook my manners.
I therefore take this opportunity to thank iceman and his helpers for providing a platform where folk of like interest can come togheter and chew the fat.
As an old aussie I come from an era where we (aussies) were that little bit behind everyone else in the world, if you didnt live thru it such a statement is meaningless but there was a time much different to today... so to see a world class site like this coming from an area I know well really somehow makes me proud although I did not contribute to the construction etc as an aussie I claim to be part of it nevertheless.
I visit a few sites around the place and join in on a few forums and iceinspace really is one of..if not the best.
Three cheers for the crew
alex

Well its nice to see others appreciate what we enjoy here so much.
I often feel it will provide the nucleus for something even more grand in the future. I am a compulsive dreamer a dreamer who sees all his dream come to pass (and I never have nightmares).
I see a iceinspace robotic scope system set up out West (and I will man it if I have to) and even..move over Rex Hunt.. a TV show...we have the set (the night sky) the presentors well how many hear qualify..Rex Hunt could not call up that many articulate fishermen I recon...and being a business person in a past life would see only the worthy and reputable sponsors let in to pay for all out toys and equipment.
I was a motor crosser once when it first became popular in the late 60's and whatched and encouraged a mate to start Australasian Dirt Bike Magazine..the late Geoff Eldridge.a true racer a true friend died doing what he loved best racing a dirt bike... we started at a time it was impossible but he did it simply by following the dream.. we did a movie..ran Moto Cross and Enduro events whilst all around us said it could not be done... and the benefits of a dirt bike mag when asking for a ride so as to test the lastest moto crossers you can not imagine.. Well imagine not knowing which of the latest Meade and Celestron 20 inchers you could take time took look thru and give a comment... up to your ears in new products to comment upon.
So now you are all surcumbing to the Anthony Robbins approach to life would it not be great to do a TV show.. the fact that I have thought about it must mean it is already being done now or at least someone must be thinking that way..astronomy is a growing sport..good for kids gives them a reason to learn maths and science. or maybe its a bad idea????

I agree Alex, I think IIS is the start of something big too, thats a nice dream mate (how long it takes is another issue) its already replacing the magazines to a fair degree (IIS is the 'organic' and interactive new aussie astro mag) (when supplemented as souces such as all the famous astro web sites - APOD, CN, NASA and ESA ones, Universe Today (my new favourite now), Spaceweather, Space.com ect ect. - and the modern miracle of widespread high speed broadband and home pc ownership.

The net places the opportunity of an effective TV platform..I dont know how to do it but a gold card would open all the doors I am sure .
Its just the evolvement here reminds me of so many enterprises I have had the privelge of being involved with seeing them grow from humble beginings. As a lawyer and later a real estate agent you can get that personal insite a business review of sucess stories dont capture.
The reason I thought about the tv, actually on conventional TV.. well there is not much on TV when most of us are about..and our prime time viewing would be probably 2 am to 4 am ( whilst the auto guide is running and the coffee is brewing what better to come in and see Mike explaining the features of the Merade 20 against the Celestron. a discussion of how to get the best from your captures, .. better than the endless 30 mintue commercials and the religious programs that seem to own that part of the day.
I am sure that in the crew there is someone like Sir Patrick Moore at the start of their career.
Once running it could be sold to prime time.. I wonder what 30 minutes on the commercial stations is worth at 3 am and I have no idea of the astronomy market and hence the add opportunity.. but thats a pre packed dream for someone.
Anyone ever see the Red Green show? thats what I would like to do at home cause that show is somehow the way it is out there... but with an astronomy bent.
