Insurance for your gear
How do you insure your astro/camera gear when you're away from home (e.g. going to a dark site, etc)?
In the past, for my camera gear I've just had specific entries added to the House and Contents insurance, but I thought I'd see if there was a better way of doing it.
Any thoughts?

Portables cover. My insurance costs $72 per month, but everything is specifically mentioned as portables. When my camera gear was stolen from my car (broken into) they replaced it within a week up to the $3000 valuation.

Do you list everything that you could take? The laptop, scope, mount and camera are obvious, but what about all the other stuff that goes with it?

No I didn't have to itemize the gear.

Mine's on the house insurance (CGU), I've not been able to find a cheaper option. I think from memory I'm covered up to $2K per item, not specified, close enough to not be too far out of pocket if anything is stolen, lost or damaged

I added my scope and camera equipment with all risks on my home contents insurance. Covers it for loss or damage anywhere. Added about $20 a month to the policy. I had to specify the items on the policy.
